Home Owner Benefits
*Energy Bills: according to Wikipedia: “…a homeowner may save anywhere from 20% to 60% annually on utilities by switching from an ordinary system to a ground-source system [like geothermal heating]. “Based on recent prices, ground-source heat pumps currently have lower operational costs than any other conventional heating source almost everywhere in the world.”

Green Development: Here at Keswick Hills we are committed to sustainable development. John and Milan Chewning are the residential real estate developers, the builders and full-time residents of Keswick Hills. They see themselves as stewards of a unique natural setting seeking to preserve and enhance a choice creation of Mother Nature. They have devoted themselves over the past decades to carefully planning and gradually developing a sustainable community like no other in South Asheville. John Chewning draws on over 20 years of experience as a Natural Resource Engineer and ensures your energy costs are held to a minimum by incorporating the latest in green building technology into your home. Milan Chewning leverages her phenomenal architectural and color design sense from her interior design background.
We reduce all waste associated with building. We have close by warehousing to store leftover scrap materials to re-use where it makes sense. For example, the timber we have cut and dried on the property is processed into trim and flooring. Most of the trim and flooring used in the houses built to date is from the property.
We follow a course that results in minimal waste sawmilling and drying cut timber on site and marketing firewood and pulp wood from what remains. What is left is shredded and used for mulch. Most development is done as quickly as possible for economic reasons and the impact on the environment is often harsh. Marketable timber is hauled to sawmills and oil or natural gas kilns are used for drying. In short, we strive for a smaller carbon footprint so that we are environmentally responsible citizens.
We have a policy of what originates here stays and is used here. Fill that is excavated is used on site. In most developments excess fill is hauled away, and when fill is needed it is hauled in, expensive and energy intensive coming and going. We try to do our part to ensure that future generations will be able to live in a healthy environment.
Green Building: is an investment that will pay substantial dividends for the life of the home and are at least 50% more energy efficient than code.
